Green Farm-Tech says it is engaged in talks to supply a mainland-based wholefoods retailer with significant order of its HydroPod product.
HONG KONG, June 12, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ — Hong Kong-based next-generation vertical and urban farming solutions provider, Green Farm-Tech has confirmed that it has entered talks to supply a significant order of its “HydroPods” to a Chinese mainland-based wholefoods retailer wishing to create a central supply hub for distribution of organically-grown produce to its outlets.
HydroPods are Green Farm-Tech’s containerized farming solution that repurposes 40-foot shipping containers to house sustainably-powered fast-growth technology that can produce various vegetables and fruits that can be harvested many times a year.
“We are excited to be in talks with this retailer because their needs are precisely why we were established,” said Green Farm-Tech’s Chief Technology Officer.
“They told us that a centralized vertical farming hub had always been something they’d considered establishing but, up until the Covid-19 outbreak, they were being well served by their existing supply chain. The aftermath of the pandemic has impacted upon their suppliers’ consistency and they’re taking the opportunity to put their plan into action,” he added.
The vertical farming industry is projected to grow exponentially in the coming years as more and more Chinese migrate from rural areas to live in urban settings and Green Farm-Tech says the demand for fresh produce in and around major conurbations should increase accordingly.
The talks are at an early stage but Green Farm-Tech’s CTO says the company is confident an agreement can be cemented within the next three months.
